DIY Refurbished Antique Looking Furniture

Hellllooo!
I've always been a crafty person. When I was little I always enjoyed arts and crafts and playing make believe. I love creating things or even better yet i love giving old things a new life I suppose. Haha. I love shopping at thrift stores for old items that I think are cool but just need to be reborn a little, either a new paint job or a new button. Whatever the case may be something old can almost always become something new.

A few years ago I bought a second hand bed side table for $19.99 at my local thrift shop. It wasnt very appealing but it was practical with big wooden drawers and was just what I needed. I always knew i was going to repaint it once i find the right colour.

The great thing about this bed side table is it is just the right size and offers so much storage with a shallow top drawer and two deep drawers. For $19.99 you can't really go wrong right?

Last month I went to Canada blooms and came across an all Canadian brand of chalk paint called "Bluestone House". I was drawn into their tiny show space by a beautiful vintage refurbished dresser they had on display. As soon as I saw it I thought, I. NEED. THIS. IN. MY. LIFE. Once I get something into my head I really can't stop thinking about it, Of course I wanted to purchase the exact same paint's they has used to recreate the same style dresser of my own! The ladies who helped me were so helpful and nice. They didn't hesitate to tell me the giant bottle of paint I had in my hand was much too much product for the project I had in mind and instead suggested a much smaller (and cheaper) bottle. I thought that was really cool of them. With Bluestone's style of paint a little product goes a long way!

The colour's I purchased were |
Emma Chalky Patina |Sandy pink
Beach Glass Patina Tiffany blue
I also purchased a small tub of Finishing Wax

The best part about this DIY "Antique looking furniture" is that it is so simple and quick to do!
No sanding or priming before hand is needed!

Once I applied two coats of paint I let the paint dry for about 10 minutes and then began the distressing process.

I used a cheap paint brush from the home hardware store to apply the paint and a sanding block from Walmart I had on hand to lightly sand the edges and anywhere ware and tare would naturally happen.

Once I was happy with the final product a used a tiny bit of the finishing wax buffed on with an old rag.

Here is the "finished product" as of now. All I need now is to buy some new handles and my "New/Old" refurbished bedside dresser will be complete!

I'm super happy with the way this turned out for my first try, the process is pretty mistake proof. I'm also happy to have supported a Canadian brand. Woot Woot! lol did I just "woot woot" !?

Thanks for reading and please share any comments or questions bellow. I'd love to see project's people have done too!

Menstrual Cup || Horror Story

       HELLO!
I'm very excited to be writing right now. I've had the urge all week to be productive and get my thoughts and .. experiences out. I'm sure you have already read the title so I might as well get on with it.
For the past few years I've made a conscious effort to be more eco friendly. My goal is to live a zero waste lifestyle ( that will be a whole series coming up). Amongst researching eco friendly alternatives and ways to reduce my waste I came across the menstrual cup. I'll admit the first time I heard about this I was pretty freaked out. I also thought, well us girls spend A LOT of money on lady products from an unfriendly routine visitor. I'd say we spend around $120-$200 a year on this crap. Not to mention the impact on the environment caused by using these products. It's one of those things that we obviously can't really control, I mean we have to use them... no one wants to be a TMI WARNING - bloody mess. So I thought okay, I'll give it a go. How bad can it be right? I mean its eco friendly, better for my overall health, and it supposedly helps with cramps as well.

Warning: The following paragraphs might be TMI for most. Boy's I'd suggest not reading any further unless you are curious as to what us girls go through. lol

I used a Diva Cup purchased from my local organic grocery store. I bought it for $50.00 as well as the plant based cleanser for about $12-$15. I thought it would be an investment.

Day 1

So, I try this thing out, first off it hurt/was very uncomfortable getting it in where it needed to be.
Secondly, It's... a little messy.
I thought whatever, I'm going to give this all I've got.  So, I put it in and waited a few hours and nothing had leaked and I didn't even feel it in me so I'm thinking this is great, easy enough I of course had to get this thing out so I could wash it and reuse it. (The whole point)
Here's where it gets tricky, the way a menstrual cup works is it suction's inside of you. It's pretty tricky to remove. You basically have to pinch the tip of the cup to release the section.
The cup somehow moved it's way high up into my... you know.. "area". With a lot of reaching and slipping I finally managed to get it out. Rinsed it, and put it back in. I did this about 3 times. Each time was an even struggle to get out.

Day 2

The instructions say you can leave this cup in for up to 12 hours. I had just changed my cup about half an hour before heading out the door. I had my friend waiting for me at the door and as I walk out I feel like I leaked out. I thought " crap! I just changed it how could it be leaking now!? ". I of course ran to my bathroom to try and remove the cup to quickly change it thinking it must of somehow over filled. I texted my friend telling her I'll be a few minutes... haha
I go to reach for the cup and found the cup had moved it's way even farther up this time where I could barley reach it! I was trying and trying to grab onto the cup with the little bit I could feel and it would not come out! It had a strong suction and was really far up. I'm thinking "OMG, I AM NOT GOING TO THE DOCTORS TODAY, I got a lady sushi date waiting for me! lol"
I tried and tried for about 10 minutes and after much panic I somehow managed to reach it and pull it out. I look at the cup and see it had little to nothing in the cup, it must of not fully opened up causing it to leak. After having basically a panic attack and going through so much stress about my diva cup getting stuck. I washed it and threw it right out.

My overall experience was not very pleasant. I'll say it really wasn't worth the money and the stress I went through. I wish it worked well because the concept was really great and I've read online it works great for so many woman. I honestly will never re purchase the diva cup.
I'm curious about trying the Lunette cup because it seems to have a longer string to help grip the cup. Although. i'm not sure I'll spend the money to order it and risk it not working for me again.

I hope this post made you laugh and cringe at the same time. Maybe you'll think about giving it a go or looking for other eco friendly options. If you do think of any please let me know!

Thanks for reading,
xx

Hello everybody

I'm writing to you currently sitting on my couch drinking some lovely fruit infused water!  haven't written a post in a while and I don't really know what to write about. I think my fancy water has inspired me to write a post about YouTuber's and Blogger's who inspire me.

If you know anything about me then you would know I've been a vegetarian for just over 6 years now. I've cut out most dairy products and have tried to go vegan many times but never have enough will power to commit. I've watched so many great documentaries on netflix on living on a plant based diet and I am pretty much obsessed with all things vegan. Everyday I try and stay as plant based as possible but some days I do cave and eat something terrible like ....pizza! >.< I'm not proud of it and am trying to make a solid effort in switching over to a plant based/vegan lifestyle!

I joined the gym recently and have been having so much fun going and working out. I never thought I'd every actually enjoy taking time out of my day and going to the gym but I actually just want to be there right now to be honest... All things aside I'm going to share with you some people I follow and who inspire me to stay healthy.

Hannah Snowdon is one of the most gorgeous tattoo'd ladies ever.
I honestly just think her tattoo's are lovely and adore her tattoo style. It's a plus she's vegan so I thought I'd add her in!

Freelee is probably the most inspirational in your face genuine person.
If you would like to really get informed on veganisim then I'd suggest checking out her channel. Freelee is the one who first opened my mind to veganisim a few years back. I love watching her videos and really respect the passion she has for spreading the message and inspiring people to live healthier fuller lives.

Let's Play Pretend!

Hello everybody!
I hope your having a happy day and the weather is lovely where ever you are!
xx

Today I decided to play dress up. It's my first weekend off of my new job and I thought i'd have some fun. ^.^

The sun is shining where I am and it's wonderful!
I'm wearing shorts for the first time this season paired with my kitten socks!
My best friend got me these socks for Christmas... imagine how long i've been dying to wear them?
Today I finally can. I paired this outfit with a pretty periwinkle coloured crop top which is super daring for me. If you know anything about my wardrobe it basically consist's of white and black... well mostly black.

I decided to have a pretend photo shoot in my bedroom with my beautiful Arda Wig. I ordered this wig a year ago and I have never worn it out. I'm sure one day I'll bring up the courage to actually do so but until then It's fun to take photo's in. :)

Until next time,
have a lovely day.

Niomi Smart's Vegan Banana Loaf

Hellloooooo everybodyyyyyy! Today's blog post is going to be my take on Niomismart's vegan banana loaf. If you haven't already heard of Niomi then i'd suggest checking her out. I first found Niomi's videos through watching ZOELLA'S vlogs on youtube. I checked out her video's and fell in love with them of course. I was even more pleased to find she writes a blog! (and a good one at that) I really enjoy NIomi's videos and blog post's. Also she has recently switched to a plant based diet and I am all about that! I myself have been a vegeterian for 6 years and have been trying to make the official switch to vegan. I love looking online for vegan meals to help inspire me to eat less cheese and more hummus.. haha. So, when I saw Niomi's recent video on how to make a healthy vegan banana loaf I had to try it right away.

The recipe for this loaf will be LINKED HERE ! :)

Here are some photo's of the process. I'd also like to add I am a terrible baker (great cook) and I had no problem following this recipe.

Finished Product here!

I picked up this candle at a local greenhouse. It is Jasmine scented and I love lighting it when I'm home. It makes the house smell so pretty. I also love the decode around the candle.
The ingredients I used are all behind the candle. The original recipe calls of rasins but I am not the biggest fan of them so I opted for some chocolate chips instead! I would have used cacao nibs to keep this loaf 100% vegan but I didn't have any on hand.

Decorate with sliced almonds and your done!
The best part about this recipe is this loaf contains no refined sugar (....minus the chocolate chips)
and is sweetened with medjool dates!
Dates are soo yummy and good for you. They are full of nutrients like potassium, fibre and copper!

I hope you try out this recipe and comment down bellow if you enjoyed it & if you have any healthy baking recipes for me to try!

I Heart You

Meet Kenny. My sisters adopted cat!
He enjoys to sit on top of the refrigerator and watch you. Ha.

I just wanted to share a few photo's of my sisters apartment. I love it so so much! I spent a few days before Valentines day baking with her... OK, I was watching youtube video's while she worked her magic. I was still present... so It still counts?
We made some sugar cookies while listing to Frightened Rabbit a really great Scottish band!

Unfortunately I couldn't stick around to decorate.. which is really the only thing I'm good at!
So... I don't have any photo's of the finished product.
Overall, baking is fun and I want to start baking myself. I'd like to bake some healthy vegan goodies like banana bread... mmmm.
If I do start trying out some recipes I will be sure to post them up on here!

Until then, I hope you had a lovely Valentine's day.

A Pointless Post

I know you don't care but here is my face.

I don't have anything planned for this post. I am currently laying in bed watching season 7 of skins UK. I am obsessed! If you enjoy watching f*cked up teenagers act completely mental then you'd enjoy skins as well. It brings me back to being 17 and not having a care in the world other then the next party i'd be attending. I am 20 now and wow, have things changed. I remember clear as day thinking I never wanted things to change, because I enjoyed them the way they were. I am still getting used to this whole being 20 thing. It's exciting really and also feels like a ticking bomb.

Life has been well and also quite stressful. I got a temporary $1.00 raise at work! No.. it's not that great.  Money wise it's nice but I only got it because my poor manager broke her wrist. If anybody reads this be sure to wish her a strong recovery because she is the loveliest lady ever.

I'm going grocery shopping tonight and I'll leave it at that. Clearly I've got nothing better to say.

A goodnight to all and happy weekend y'all.
xx
